The Anglican Church has been present in Uruguay since 1844 with its centre at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Montevideo, known locally as the "English Temple". The church's presence in Uruguay took on a new dimension when it became a Diocese in 1988. Since that time it has been considering and developing the concept of "holistic mission" that, in the style of Jesus, promotes holistic personal development and is concerned about both spiritual and material wellbeing. This mission is now being undertaken in more than 12 places - in Montevideo as well as locations throughout the country including Salto, Fray Bentos and Rivera.

The Anglican Diocese of Uruguay consists of 5 parishes and 7 missions. It is presided over by Bishop Miguel Tamayo supported by 7 priests, 3 Deacons and 1 Permanent Deacon.
