Episcopal Church of Cuba

The Anglican Church of Uruguay has had close links to the Episcopal Church of Cuba for a number of years.
Bishop Miguel and his wife, the Rev Martha Lopez, are both Cuban nationals and a decade ago were sent as missionaries from the Episcopal Church of Cuba to support the Anglican Church in Uruguay. In 1998, on the transfer of the then Bishop of Uruguay, William Godfrey, to the diocese of Peru, Miguel was elected diocesan bishop in Uruguay.
In January 2004 Bishop Miguel agreed to serve as interim diocesan bishop in Cuba to assist the diocese to prepare for the election of a new Bishop. He is currently spending half of his time in each of the two Dioceses.

Dr Livan Echazabal, the co-ordinator of the San Esteban Hostel within the Diocese of Uruguay, and his wife Yudith who is a nurse at the San Esteban hostel are missionaries from the Episcopal Church of Cuba. The San Esteban hostel offers support to those who are homeless and living with HIV/AIDS.
Livan and Yudith are supported by the UK Missionary agency USPG through their "exchanging places" missionary programme.
