Description of the Diocese

The Diocese is located in south-west Brazil on the border with Uruguay and was established in 1950.

The Cathedral of the Diocese is located in the city of Santa Maria. It is a norman-gothic style building constructed in 1906.

There are 25 clergy covering 27 parishes along with some 60 Missions and "Evangleisation Points"

There are some 40000 baptised Anglicans in the Diocese with around 5000 confirmed members.

Since the late 1990´s the Diocese of Sur-Occidental and the Diocese of Uruguay have worked together on a church planting project within the city of Rivera, which is located on the border of Uruguay and Brazil.

Rev. Paulo Duarte and his wife Sandra are missionaries from the Diocese Sur-Occidental, working in the OLd City of Montevideo, Uruguay.
